A section of the southwest side of Governor’s island is about to open to the public for the first time. Dubbed as an old military base and a landfill site with old buildings for many years, the areas now will consist of four hills sloping up toward the sky and pointing to the Statue of Liberty.

A park consisting of towering hills designed by Dutch landscape firm West 8 will open on July 19,, offering sweeping views of the New York Harbor and the city skyline. The new park was created with climate change and rising sea levels in mind (the Dutch know a thing or two about floods), so the landscape is flood-resistant. And, oh wait, it also features the longest slide of New York City running 70 meters downhill.
