Hot, humid and busy, Singapore mornings can be quite tough for finding a good breakfast spot in close proximity! Thankfully, a quick taxi ride can definitely get you to Common Man Coffee Man Roasters in River Valley for a delicious yet healthy breakfast boost… and some kick-ass espresso!
Awarded with the Readers Choice Best Café by SG Magazine back to back in 2014 and 2015, Common Man is a verticalised Roastery, coffee shop and roasting academy across Singapore and, neighboring, Malaysia. The food menu is served alongside an extensive coffee offering, ranging from their signature CMCR Espresso Blend, prepared on a custom Synnesso espresso machine, to a manual brew from single origins and micro-lots.
The day I visited the place was kind of packed (as almost any other day during the early morning hours) but despite the available seating outdoors, I opted for the air-conditioned space indoors. Coffee lovers were already taking a class next-door as I whisked through the menu to check what’s on offer. A great deal of creative dishes, both on eggs as well as on yoghurt. The Sautéed Kale & Egg White Scramble dish was amazing, with just enough parmesan shavings and lemon crumbs to add some boost to it. Additionally, I tried the House-made crunchy granola, fresh fruit & greek-style honey yoghurt which was also very tasty and crunchy. Rumor has it their omelettes are also very good.
Although the kitchen also offers a lunch service, it’s best to assume that CMCR is mostly about its coffee offering. A great espresso that comes with a small bottle of sparkling water to cleanse your palate. All in all, a great place to visit and thumbs up for a very unique offering!
