Forget about ceviche, black angus and truffle; let’s talk about authentic traditional Greek mama’s cuisine. That’s all there is at Nikos and Theologia’s small canteen and you should add it on your to-do list while in Patmos!
We first stumbled upon this little heaven on our first trip back in 2016. The canteen is located on top of the Didimes beach, right off the main road. There is nothing fancy nor luxurious about this place, just simple home-cooked food served in plastic plates.

The menu is based on what Mrs. Theologia cooks for the day. If you’re lucky enough to try her stuffed tomatoes with rice, so called gemista, or her spinach and feta pie you’ll definitely thank us for your meal. Rumor has it that her mousaka (a Greek traditional dish with potatoes, eggplant, minced meat & just a tad of bechamel sauce) is also one of a kind, though we still haven’t been able to try it out. Just make sure you check with them before visiting cause they only operate during most weeks of July and August!
