Right on the historic corner of Christopher and Gay Streets, Dominique Bistro, is the perfect “go-to” place when feeling nostalgic about Paris and its cuisine. Chef Dominick Pepe has managed to create a well balanced menu, offering delicious dishes, in line with the traditional French cuisine.

This 40-seat cozy restaurant can easily become your ultimate destination for a weeknight date, or a get-together weekend brunch. Its style and architecture its based on 12-foot ceilings, wooden furniture and pop art paintings, that blend together and produce an elegant French-like environment. Apart from the regular table seating, Dominique Bistro offers a small copper-plated bar, which is actually one of my favorite bars to enjoy a glass of French wine and some small plates.

Regardless of whether you are a red or white wine fan, Dominique Bistro’s selective wine list can satisfy both. The majority of its choices come from various locations in France, while there are also some from Spain, Portugal and Italy.

The menu is categorized based on the main ingredient of the dishes, such as vegetables, fish, meat and pasta. Even though I believe all the dishes are equally tasty and worth it, I can’t deny I have some favorites and I’m ready to share them with you. First and foremost, a place can never be called a French restaurant unless they offer traditional Escargots, and in this case, this dish is a must! Secondly, the fresh, creamy Burrata is always included in the order, so does the Ratatouille, with tomato, zucchini and eggplant. Did I mention the Pappardelle with veal bolognese can also be considered a sharing appetizer dish?

If you’re not so hungry, and would like to order something along with a glass of wine, the Selection of charcuterie and cheese is always a good choice!

As for the choices of main course, no matter what you get to choose, you should definitely order a side of crunchy golden Truffle Fries (just do it!). The Mussels with white cream sauce, the Steak Tartare and the Pistachio Crusted Lamb are the ones I love. For those who may be interested in a healthier approach for dinner, the Baby Octopus is a fresh and tasteful entrée.

Should you have room for dessert, the warm Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice-cream will be the perfect end on your meal.

Tip: since the place is quite small, I would recommend to make a reservation, especially when the party is larger than two.
