Middle Eastern food cannot really be a thing around New Orleans, but it turns out that Shaya restaurant on Uptown’s Magazine street is just about what you need for a quick lunchbreak and some tasty treats!
Located on Magazine street, the restaurant is a treat for doing a walk-in as patrons come in and out every so often you’ll definitely be getting a table quite fast. When weather permits they also operate a small terrace at the back which also provides plenty of sunshine if you’re there around the right time – that’s noon of course!
Although the place gets packed quite a lot, especially around Saturday lunchtime, Shaya is a great option for something to nibble. Manning a menu full of Mediterranean bites, Shaya boasts quite a few dishes drawing inspiration from Greece to Turkey and all the way to the Middle East in the likes of Lebanon and, of course, Israel!
Naming a few highlights is quite easy as you definitely would like to get your hands on some of the crunchy pickled vegetables, the delicate hummus that’s spread with virgin olive oil and the Brussel sprouts that are perfectly charred from the grill.
Oh, and make room for all the pittas that comes plenty, with service keep on refilling, straight from the oven at the back – goes great with some olive oil and zattar!
