Things in Thessaloniki tend to go viral before they even happen. Everyone knows anyone so it’s no surprise a similar pattern followed suite with the recent arrival of Pelosof, an all-day two-storey space on number 22 of Tsimiski street. Branded as a sensory experience for coffee enthusiasts, cocktail aficionados and stalwart foodies, Pelosof definitely catches the eye.
Recently tipped off by a close friend, fellow TFPer and trend seeker, I visited this brand new place to see what this is all about.
First time there, we visited for a hearty brunch early enough before midday when the cool kids of the city turn up. The all-day and lunch menu was spectacular with lots to choose from – yes on the poached eggs dishes, most certainly on the croissant with creme patisserie topped with melomakarono crumble and oh help me god on the grilled cheese sandwich with Lefkada salami and crunchy kale chips! High quality ingredients, great texture and nicely served – all, fabulous options!
Second time around and we opted for drinks at night. The main hall speaks volumes to what modern design can do to such a traditional space as this old hall that once housed the main post office of the city. History has it that the actual building was bombarded during the war but soon enough went back to serving mail. Even though certain projects took off here in the last few years, most of the building remained empty and not particularly utilised.
Mosaic flooring, huge custom-made modern decorative elements mostly made from steel and a lot of white covers most of it. The long bar in the middle of the room creates a playful vibe with some satellite spaces all around in smaller rooms some of which feature their own bar. Just pick your spot and let the night follow.
As we follow the steps down to the Water Closet, we can’t help but notice the immaculate space downstairs that is soon going to be launching an all-day fine dining experience. More to come as of January 5th, so I guess there’s soon going to be a third time around.
