Going back to my hometown has always filled with great joy and fond memories. And quite naturally one would think that I would tend to overly get excited about new restos, dishes and recommendations. Extravaganza is not like that at all. I’ve given it enough time and a couple of tries before it got on the list and here’s the short story on it!

Tucked away in a small commercial hall around the busy urban streets of Caravan Saray, a neighborhood we’ve previously explored and documented, Extravaganza is a place made out of love and good friendship. A bunch of young entrepreneurial boys, Antonis, Vasilis and Savvas, set out in 2015 to make creative Greek cuisine affordable and tasty – and so they did!

With casual interiors hand-crafted by 2objectrepair and a Greek-inspired menu, Extravaganza is the kind of place you’ll see the usual suspects that work in the area for their business lunch and the odd tourists that have discovered this gem from all the raving reviews online. Regardless of which category you identify with, you’ll love it!

Whatever you order, make sure you get a bite of the Greek salad with red, yellow and green tomatoes, haroupi rusks and feta cheese. Even though the menu does get adapted to the season, some of their best dishes are featured throughout the year. And one of them you should definitely go for is the fried meatballs with sage! Another one is the fried Mytlini cheese battered in oats and dolloped with onion preserve.

As for the main courses, the seabass with chopped sun-dried tomatoes over celery puree was really good and what was better were the grilled lamb chops!

The place also serves quite a few Greek beers (with all the frenzy around microbrewing lately) as well as some good ol’ raki. Make sure you complement your lunch with some of that to get your meal going until late as you ought to!
