Sifnos is well known for its culinary tradition so it’s pretty straight forward to expect the very best for your standard Greek taverna. To Tsikali takes the concept one step further by letting you dig your toes into the golden sand of Vathy beach and have the sea right on your feet – magic! Located in Vathy beach To Tsikali is an honest traditional Greek taverna serving homemade comfort food right by the sea.
The sun is indeed hot on an August day when I first set foot on the cute little porch of the taverna, patrons enjoying themselves a late lunch and available tables nowhere to be found. Thank god for the beautiful and picturesque setting around the beach that is keeping us entertained whilst waiting to be seated. After 10mins the friendly waiter approaches us and invites to our seaside table – bliss! The menu is simple and short, but having come recommended we go straight for their delicious tomato feta salad. Sprinkled with capers and lushed in Greek extra virgin olive oil locally sourced, it is exactly what we need to get our appetite going. We follow on with some locally sourced vlita greens and a slow-cooked half-chicken in lemon sauce, served with a bed of spaghetti! A few other mains like their goat are good, as well as their special spinach pie handmade to the last mile. Honest, comfort food, served right by the sea in this magical island of the Aegean sea. What’s best to do on a lazy summer afternoon?
