Arguably the best food on the island, with a very tight menu crossing home-cooked food to grilled meat, and a view to the main piazza of Chora!
Initially overlooked on my way to Stratos, this little taverna hidden right by the big church of St Athanasios is what you’re looking for come dinner time in a Greek island. As we take our seats and are browsing the menu I make note of the the chickpeas dish, a traditional of the Cyclades and particularly Serifos, as well as a couple of grilled meat dishes.
It’s early in the evening and after a walk up to Kastro with the beautiful sunset view, we’ve worked an appetite for a wholesome meal. It’s still early-ish for a Greek dinner so the waitress swiftly gets to us (even though service is probably their weakest spot when they’re super busy).
I pose the dilemma “soutzouki or kebab?”, only to hear that the kebab is the best dish of the house… so along we go with it. We also order some starters with it: a perfectly pan-fried Gruyere cheese, delicious horta (greens in Greek) from their garden and some fluffy, succulent zucchini fritters. Yes, bad habits never die, but hell this is vacation time. A time to really enjoy food in whatever form or shape!
