This week marks the opening of another brilliant photography exhibition of Petros Sofikitis in what he calls unchartered waters. Kontaki Design gallery in downtown Kolonaki will be hosting Hinterland, a world of images inspired by isolation and regeneration, starting this Friday, December 1st.
Petros tells the story of Hinterland, through the discovery of 5 different characters in 5 different locations across Greece. Using dramatic lighting he makes an attempt at analysing their psychology. Hinterland is a mindgame, a labyrinth that entraps one’s thoughts and submerges them into darkness. The concept of isolation is actually non-existent and it’s that Petros chooses to focus on as his characters realize that on the path to regeneration. On the path to hope.
A Napier University graduate, Petros comes back to Greece in 2008 and starts his career in photography alongside his dad, an acclaimed photographer of Greece. In 2011, he co-founds a photograahy studio with his brother Constantinos offering services mainly around travel and wedding photography. Having collaborated with Google Greece, TedxAthens and other big brands, he has also received numerous awards including “Contemporary Photographer of the Year” in 2011 at the SWPP competition.
