Those who know me well, know that I am not a meat-eater. Rather the contrary to be honest! Without being vegan though, I just never really ate meat. Sure I do make some exceptions from time to time, on very special occasions. And having dinner at COTE was one of them! And it was so worth it…
Chef Simon Kim, owner of Michelin-starred Piora in the West Village, and chef David Shim have newly opened this high-style version of a Korean steakhouse in the Flatiron district. There’s a lounge area at the entrance and a marble-topped bar in the center, dividing the space into two dining rooms. Japanese-built yakiniku grills are set into the center of the tables which make this place very convivial and perfect for group gathering.
The meat that Cote grills is prime beef aged anywhere from a week to four and a half months in the dry-aging room downstairs with meat from and other local vendors.
You want to try the prize order, called the « butcher’s feast », which, priced at $45 per person, comes with four cuts of beef, egg souffle, salads, banchan, two stews, and soft serve.
One of my favorite part was the dessert: little twirls of vanilla soft serve that get dribbled with salted caramel sauce, served in a tiny porcelain cup. Yummy!
