There’s nothing corporate about it but this coffee place in Williamsburg is all about business. Well, not quite. And great crowd and coffee too.

Located around the windy streets of Williamsburg, very close to the river, Devocion is Colombia’s answer to the recent trend of micro-roasteries and specialty coffee. It’s almost two years old welcoming neighbours and travelers alike in this vibrant yet peaceful space in New York’s Brooklyn.

Despite having no table service, the place is indeed high end. Housed in a space that was once a meatpacking plant and a woodhouse, Devocion has remarkably transformed this space picking up quite a buzz in the neighbourhood.

As you walk in and go down the narrow corridor, you notice the stacked coffee bags and the roastery space responsible for the Bogota-sourced fine coffee. The skylight and its plentiful sunshine coming in makes for a very laid back environment ever welcoming. Patrons mostly share tables and conversations flow from business to even new encounters.

Devoción was launched in 2006 with a mission to change the way coffee is drunk around the world and an emphasis on the freshest coffee possible.

The big wall blanketed in green is home to more than 2,000 plants some of which were brought in from the Bogota coffee plants directly. As for the beans, Devocion buys coffee cherries directly from around 400 farms and, after dry-milling them, ships them to the US via Fedex with the goal of roasting them within 10 to 30 days of their peak ripeness. The end result is really authentic, as if you taste the coffee right at the plants in Colombia.

In addition to great coffee, Devocion offers a short but tasty selection of small bites including a kick-ass ham cheese croissant! Try it!
