Summer holidays is all about suntanning, relaxation, afternoon cocktails and, what else, good food! In Milos, one of the most up-and-coming Cycladic islands, you will never be disappointed when it comes to food and dining, especially at O!Hamos. A traditional, comfort and picturesque taverna located just outside Adamandas.
As soon as you walk in the restaurant, you instantly feel a welcoming vibe of a cozy, family owned place. Right at the entrance there is a guest book, where guests can write a “Thank You” note and talk about their experience. The menu, offered in a couple of different languages, is handmade and handwritten, while all the cups and dishes are ceramic and customized including the restaurant’s name on them.
Everything seems to have been thoroughly thought when creating this small paradise. The food is based on traditional recipes, sometimes with a twist, but the end result is always satisfying. All the dishes are made using fresh, local ingredients, while the cheese and meat used are produced at the restaurant’s owner farm.
When browsing through the menu, here’s what you need to keep a close eye on: Pitarakia tis giagias (aka delicious cheese pies), a traditional recipe that is a must when you visit this island, bouyiourdi which is technically tomatoes, peppers and cheese baked in a pot. Moving along, avga matia me allo mati is probably everyone’s favorite as it’s a dish with french fries and bitten fried eggs. Add some keftedakia – fried juicy meatballs – and zucchini with Milos cheese, and you’ll probably be more than fine for appetizers.
There is a great variety of main dishes to choose from, all including meat. What really stands out is their kleftiko dish, pork cubes cooked with carrots and onions in the oven, as well as, the gourounopoulo metimezako (just look at the picture below – YUM!), a must-try piglet dish.
Can you still breathe?! Are you looking for something sweet to end your trip to paradise? Well the choice is, once again, hard to make. I would go for the portokalogliko, a dessert based on oranges and chocolate (my favorite!).
