Located at the edge of Pori beach on the remote island of Ano Koufonissi, Kalofeggo is a pleasant surprise in what is a scenic place anyway. The abundant colors around, the mellow and toned down music and the heartfelt cooking will make your visit quite an experience.

This place takes your heart right from the start. Everyone is so ecstatic about the turquoise waters and the long sandy beach at Pori that people forget about the great food one can find at such a remote place in a very laid back ambience almost second to none!

As you settle in, you’re taken by the bright yet timid colors that paint this place happy and mellow. The view to the sea reminds you that there’s still plenty of action by the beach, as you nestle behind in this somewhat protected environment. The music plays low, just enough to cover the patrons who almost whisper as if they’re afraid to spoil this moment for others. The menu arrives!

Tomato, pickled onions and fennel salad

Chef Stefanos, in his late 20s, has created a short yet long enough menu of some simple yet sophisticated dishes. The waitress kindly apologizes for the panchetta that is missing from today’s menu but has rather been gracefully replaced by the steak combs – an absolute must!

The starters arrive with the beef carpaccio and tomato salad making the top of the list. None of them are new to our palate but the chef has somehow mastered these and has made them taste just right. As we slowly sip a few more shots of biologically distilled raki, we mix that up with some fried local cheese (as simple as that) and we take on the shrimp couscous that tickles the back of our tongue with its lime zest.

The steak combs arrive! They have been slowly cooked to perfection, the meat is tender with a light crisp on the outside, served with baby potatoes hot from the oven and seasoned with enough garlic. The meal is almost over, we’re so full we want to lay back and go off to sleep but the surprises keep on coming. We order 3 different desserts, just because we can’t make up our mind, and we’re astounded by each and every one of them: sour cherry cheesecake, triple chocolate mousse and banoffee!

This. Is. So. Good.
