Arguably one of the best restaurants on the island, serving Greek-inspired tapas in a fun and vibrant setting up in Chora. Patrons queue up the tiny alley in front of Katogi for hours for a table so best to make a reservation a few days in advance!
Yorgos Katseas has been a longtime foodie before getting acquainted with cooking and making it a profession. Originally working as staff in Ios, it was right in 2007 when he first launched Katogi tavern together with his partner in life Theodora Tziamali.
On a trip to the island for a few days they saw this tiny place and immediately thought of making it into a tavern – Yorgos was going to man the kitchen whilst Theodora was going to tend to diners at the small porch outside the small kitchen. Back then, this spot also dubbed as their home once the kitchen closed after midnight.
18 years on, a lot has changed as they’ve expanded the establishment twice, catapulting it into the top places for refined dishes on the island!
The menu features some all time favourites like the slow-cooked veal cones, their triple-cooked country fries and their potato gnocchi with syglino and pomodorini. We happened to visit their place more than once during our stay in Ios and were astounded by the enthusiastic, well-trained staff, the funky vibe and the tasty dishes!
If you’re visiting soon make sure you call ahead for a reservation and when finally getting to your table ask for the day’s specials. You can thank us later!
