A welcoming service, a cosy environment and some good treats can go a long way. Forget about whitecloth assortments, haute cuisine dishes like ceviche and any other paraphernalia. At the traditional Greek taverna of Hiliomodi, they stay true to the core of great hospitality and a a good meal!

To Hiliomodi, Patmos - Travel Food People

I wanted to visit this tiny place in the back alleys of Skala for a few years now but every time something (mostly opening times) happened. Thankfully we found ourselves at this spot on a late post-beach craving for some traditional seafood meze. Think pickled seaweed, fava spread and deliciously tasting zucchini fritters!

The tables at Hiliomodi are set around 19:00 every day when they start service. The rooftop veranda upstairs opens a bit later but is a good spot for later dinners. Meanwhile, downstairs you get all the action and are close to the kitchen which always makes a good chat with owner Theologos Gonidakis. Even more so, since he is the own catching the fish early in the morning each day!

Theologos and his family have set up a very friendly place with a great emphasis on good quality dishes and authentic Greek cuisine. The crowd usually gets in at Hiliomodi around 21:00 so plan accordingly… even after multiple shots of ouzo and tsipouro, you should normally be leaving by then!
