Kolonaki is long time known for the heart of the Athenian elite and Papadakis taverna is probably the best of fish and seafood the area has to offer. For decades on.

As you climb up the hill of Kolonaki towards Dexameni square, the bustling commerce activity of the area starts to fade out and residential buildings kick into play with the signature steep steps signifying the multiple levels of it. Papadakis is set next to one of them, nestled under some lush trees and tucked away in a small corner of Fokilidou street. A long time favorite for the old Athenian bourgeoisie that keeps on coming back daily and certainly on Sunday afternoons.

A plentiful menu offers a lot of options be it on fish or seafood, despite the somewhat bitterly priced items like the catch of the day or other delicacies like sea urchin. Regardless, the white cloth setting is spotless and the service very professional. As for the food, high quality produce cooked in a simple, honest and tasteful way. We had a deliciously made portion of fava spread from Santorini, a golden-fried baby calamari and a divine sea urchin salad to start off. All very well executed.

Our main, a hearty 900grams portion of fresh golden grouper, was even better. Professionally cooked, professionally prepared and served without its bone but still as a whole, the fish was indeed astounding. Fresh, rich in flavor and quite moist as it ought to be.

Another classic Athenian establishment on our list.
