New York: Spice your night up at Babu Ji
Babu Ji has remained for a long time on my bucket list. I have always been a real fan of Indian food and have always loved the variety of spices, textures, colours and savours that are so specific to the Indian cuisine. I finally got the chance to book a table, few months ago, for a colourful, original and intimate dinner with a friend visiting me in New York. And let me tell you that we were not disappointed!
The big Apple is full of endless lists of little gems and hidden delicious places to eat any food from any country. Babu Ji is a pretty spot nestled in the west village not far from Union Square and is serving the perfect combo of modern and traditional meals with an undeniable touch of creativity. And all of this in a vibrant and dynamic bistro-style atmosphere. Whether it’s only for a late night drink at their bold and shiny bar or to enjoy a classic tandoori chicken and their wide selection of rice, bread and sauces search no more, Babu Ji is the place you are looking for.
What we liked? The constantly changing menu according to the season, the fresh high-quality products used to make the perfectly balanced curries, roasted cauliflower and always-satisfying lentil dhals for all the veggies out there! Above all, it’s also the street food inspiration that stands out and makes this restaurant so unique and different from any other traditional Indian places.
What we recommend? Order a bunch of stuff from the menu and share everything from small to large plates. This is the best way to stick to the classics that you already love and discover new dishes that you’ll definitely like too.
