Sofia: classic Italian pizza and pasta at Forno Cipollini
The Balkans are in love with Italian cuisine and quite frankly, there's no better place to have the authentic pizza and pasta in Sofia than in Forno Cipollini! Casual ambience, a fun Italian chef and owner and some tasty dishes to go with it.
Angelo Cipollini was pitched the idea of setting shop in Sofia back in 2005 but it took a bit of convincing before he landed in Bulgaria's capital in 2012 launching Forno Cipollini for the first time. A classic trattoria where most of the magic is crafted by hand.
A few years later Angelo operates two locations in Sofia with most of the patrons being loyal customers for years now. Casual ambience, good quality produce and authentic recipes are what makes Forno Cipollini stand out. Restless with his cooking, Angelo tends to the oak wood Pavesi oven serving pizzas piping hot and delicious! A paper-thin crust, less ingredients and some kick-ass mozzarella is what makes Cipollini's pizza so unique! As for their pasta, this is the classic Italian kind where garlic gets heavy and the tomato sauce is so juicy and sweet you'd want to slurp it all in.
When we visited we started with an arugula salad and some antipasti that were ok but nothing special. But then had a Pizza Ventricina with its spicy Italian salami that was perfect thin and baked to perfection! And Penne Arabbiatta that was very simple and tasty. Carbonara was indeed on the menu but not available on the day but we'll sure be coming back!
Well done Angelo and team!
