Milos: magnificent views, a great team and delicious food at Astakas
When I first visited Milos, the gorgeous looking seafood restaurant of Astakas in the seafront settlement of Klima hadn't yet opened. Ever since it opened in July 2015, I religiously go back every time I'm traveling to this beautiful island!
An early summer dusk, we find ourselves descending towards the colorful village of Klima, which is located in the northeast side of Milos but facing a beautiful looking sunset somewhat west. The Astakas team -previously managing a small local meze place a bit further up in Triovasalos- managed to finally open the restaurant in late 2015, making it one of the top places to visit (if not the best one!) for top notch seafood and lobster pasta!
The tables neatly lined up, an almost-all off-white decor contrasting the colors of the upcoming sunset and patrons quietly enjoying their starters, as we pass by the restaurant making our way towards the old narrow boathouses, syrmata, for the occasional photo opp. As soon as the sky turns ruby, we eventually make our way to the table (ask Ms Irene for no.12 - the best view) and are off to a great start of a meal with a chilled rosé.
Friendly and attentive service helps us with our order which mostly focuses around lobster or the local equivalent in Greece, kolochtipa (slipper lobster). Tender boiled and nicely blend in one sweet tomatoey sauce, the lobster pasta is definitely our favourite dish! Others include the velvety squid risotto, plain and simple; the tomato fritters, top top top!; and the tiny fried shrimps from Symi!
Hats off to Irene and Sofia for a great addition to Milos' beautiful gastronomical offering!
