Washington DC: a unique dining experience at Rose’s Luxury
Ever since I came to DC, Rose’s Luxury was at the top of my “to do” list. It took me a while to go though since getting a table there might be pretty challenging. Having earned a Michelin star last year, my expectations were pretty high. And I must admit, this no-reservations dining room, is absolutely worth the long queues and wait.
The owner, Chef Aaron Silverman, lives in same neighborhood as the restaurant’s location on Capitol Hill. He is the only DC’s chef to win in the James Beard award last year while he is also the owner of the two Michelin star restaurant, Pineapple & Pearls.
The place was named after the Chef’s grandmother while the “Luxury” refers to his desire for taking care of his customers.
“It’s not about white gloves and a four-fork table setting,” Silverman says. “It’s about being taken care of, and making people happy.”
Rose’s Luxury is an Eclectic New American restaurant, offering innovative tapas dishes in a cozy-yet-contemporary environment. Seating is available at the tables or at the bar area downstairs but there is also a rooftop garden.
Part of the restaurant’s charm, flows from the staff, who is beyond welcoming and more than happy to talk you through their creative menu.
The relatively small but unique food menu, allows you to choose among four categories: little bites, small plates, pasta and family style. For a dinner of two, our server recommended four to six dishes. I definitely recommend getting the Sake & Wasabi-marinated oysters with apple granite and the Rigatoni Cacio E Pepe (yum!). Also, don’t miss out on the Pork Sausage with Habanero, Peanuts and Lychee (vegetarian version available too). A highlight of the menu was their all-time classic Egg Yolk & Ricotta raviolo with spring onion& peas.
As for the dessert, definitely try the Coconut milk ice-cream with burnt coconut, lime and kiwi.
But seriously, every single dish at this restaurant is phenomenal!
Tip: Try and go on a weekday since it can get extremely busy on the weekends!
