Nowadays it seems like every single restaurant, regardless of budget and overall offering, is adopting new gastronomy trends and trying to snatch a spot in the list of the best Instagram feed. With so much going on around, it’s good to cancel out the noise of ephemeral spots and watch out for the ones that are here to stay. Seychelles restaurant (formerly Bahamas – lol) in the area of Metaxourgeio, Athens, is definitely one of them!

Budget prices, simple yet elegant flavors and a buzzing dining space make up for the ones that dare to come all this way just for one meal!

What I should probably share with you first is the need for some proper planning. The restaurant can be quite busy during all nights so make sure you get on the dial tone early enough (1 day ahead should be fine). Otherwise you may also arrive early-ish around 8pm, or just opt for a lunch (but not on weekends) to be on the safe side.

The service is not exquisite as everything at Seychelles is a bit on the experimental edge. Yes, you’ll get served fast but the most disappointing thing though is that most of their dishes run out as the night goes by – so better check for that Papardelle before you make the drive down there.

The menu is long enough and features great dishes to share but one thing is certain. The Papardelle with lard and cheese is a definite must and the dish you won’t easily forget. At just 9 euros (and rarely do we refer to prices when a dish is so good!) it represents one of the best simple yet sophisticated dishes I’ve ever had in the last few months. Speaking of cheese, Seychelles restaurant has a great selection of them and one that includes some that are hard to find. Skotyri from the island of Ios is a good example, as well as the mature gruyere cheese with thyme. As for starters that you can easily share, the tomato and zucchini fritters are very tasty and delicately fried, the assortment of grilled Portobello mushrooms are juicy and crunchy and their fried potatoes are super tasty!

As the meal progresses, you come to realize that more and more people come in -regardless of class and type- which makes the place buzzing and a fun space to dine in. After all, the place gets very busy after 9.30pm and their motto is that whatever dish comes out from the kitchen will find your table first – whether it’s a starter, main or… dessert (well, hope not!).

Come try for yourself (if you haven’t still been here) and you can thank us (and the friend that introduced us to this place) later!
