New York: Your "more than just sushi" place at Sushi Seki

New York: Your "more than just sushi" place at Sushi Seki

Sushi Seki is perhaps one of the most popular upscale sushi restaurants in NY. For years now, chef & owner Seki Shi, along with his talented team, have been serving customers with high quality seafood, while creating and balancing authentic dishes and flavors, that one cannot resist. For all the sushi lovers out there, this place is a must visit.

Chef Seki has build his reputation over the years by mastering the art of fine sushi. In particular, about two decades ago, he was working for another famous high-end NY Japanese restaurant, Sushi of Gari. However, everything took off in 2002 when the first location of Sushi Seki opened on the Upper East Side. Since then, there are two other locations, one in Chelsea and another on Times Square. All look almost alike, so no matter which one you visit you'll definitely be satisfied.

Apart from a tasteful menu, which I'll talk about in a bit, the team has managed to take care of everything for you, and that means great choices of sake and wine lists. Both are very extensive and offer customers the chance to enjoy some great beverages along with their dinner.

Suski Seki's omakase is definitely a must try in case you're never had it before. Dining by the bar, while watching the chef meticulously prepare each dish, is a very entertaining experience. They offer two options of omakase, a sushi-only and a sushi & rolls one. Did I also mention dining by the bar is the perfect spot for a date?!

On the other hand, if you're more keen on appetizers, particular rolls, etc., then let me just mention some of my favorite dishes to consider. First and foremost, the Nasu Shigiyaki, or baked eggplant with miso paste, is a good start. Some other interesting choices are the Maguro Avocado - diced tuna & avocado with fresh wasabi soy -, and the Gyoza.

On the sushi side, the Salmon With Sautéed Tomato (Yes tomato on a sushi!) along with the Yellowtail with Jalapeños, are most likely the most popular pieces of sushi for those you know....Even though some flavors may seem strange these two are totally worth it.

If you're looking for a rather cooked meal, the Yuzu Miso Cod and the Chicken Katsu, will do just as good as the rest.

P.S. I hope you've realized by now that reservation is a must!
