People: Mapping the Mediterranean coastline on a helicopter
It seemed not far ago when we used to rely on paper maps and encyclopaedias in order to better understand the world around us. Surely the world of the Internet, enter Google Maps, Streetview and the likes, upped the experience quite a bit. And then, a couple of Greek entrepreneurs had the vision to map the Mediterranean coastline using their photo equipment and a helicopter.
TripinView launched in 2013 with the goal of creating geo-tagged photo and video footage pinned on a map across more than 500 seaside locations and 8 countries. Achilleas Hadjinikos and Vaggelis Kassimatis are now already working with a number of people on expanding their work to more locations and countries across the globe.
They're also aiming at getting a share in the online tourism business by assisting travellers with some early-funnel dreaming. How so? The website doubles also as a booking site for hotel stays by giving prospective patrons the chance to review the area of the hotel they wish to stay in.
