Kimball House was one of those places I always wanted to go but every time there was a last time change of plans for one reason or another. So, I was really happy when a rainy Sunday afternoon would be the day for that longing visit. The restaurant is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods of Atlanta, Decatur, and the building resides in the former Decatur railway depot built in 1891.

Though we did make a reservation when we arrived our table wasn’t ready so we sat at the bar. The interior has tons of charm and sophisticated elegance and the bar is its focal point so we actually preferred it that way. Black leather couches, marble counters, brass details and vintage furniture reminding of an old 1800s France. We started off with the Shrimp Cocktail and the Grilled Oysters (we always try grilled oysters when in South and we always love them!) and some of their craft cocktails which were out of this world. We then had their Pommes Macaire, with sauce gribiche, the Sweetbreads (gnocchi with brown butter, brussel sprouts, capers and lemon), the Stir-fry Vegetables (bok choi, sweet potatoes, roots, mushrooms) which came in an excellent broth, and the Snapper with artichokes, sunchokes, turnips and asparagus, all greatly executed and nicely presented.

Chocolate Mousse Royale served with biscuits The service was excellent, the food delicious and the bar atmosphere one of the best I’ve been around into for a while. Their Chocolate Mousse Royale was the right try-out-to-share dessert, topping off a perfect dinner!
