Meat eating in Athens has recently become a bit too upscale for our liking. So we ventured just outside of the city to the somewhat lush Afidnes suburb for some pure meat dishes at our old favourite taverna Makis.

The place has been running for more than three decades now with Mr Makis still manning the scene, in charge of taking orders as well as serving the juicy meat steaks! The taverna is set on a quiet side street of the national road, minutes away from the local train station, and enjoys a sunny courtyard making for some enjoyful weekend dining outdoors. During the winter, the indoors can also be a treat. Decorated with some traditional artefacts and a few old pictures hanging on the wall, Makis taverna is definitely a classic in our book!

The menu is not very sophisticated, which is exactly what you need for a frivolous weekend lunch. A few starters, including their signature radikia sautéed greens and the famous Greek salad with tomatoes from their own vine. The steaks are plentiful so make sure you get what you really enjoy: the classic pork chop, the more juicy rib-eye and the one of a kind T-bone steak!
Enough said!
