Escaping the Athenian standards and edging towards East London’s vibes, Joshua Tree Café offers a nice home away from home for those in need of good coffee and some people-watching. For food, even if you love vegan and vegeterian, there’s still a long way to go.

One of the few places that literarily popped up right after Covid-19’s lockdown restrictions lift, Joshua Tree Café is rightfully one that caught our eye as we were driving around the outskirts of Pagrati in Mets. Bright blue frames, big windows and a colorful array is what this place is all about. The neon sign showing the place is open and the peculiar faces around make for a great intro.
Aesthetics all around blend a nice American 60s vibe with some traditional elements of Greek architecture, making the perfect spot for trying something different – at last! Skevi Erotokritou, known from the hip success of Ipittou’s Bluebird, and Salonikos Salonikidis wanted to create a space that resembled their travel stories around California and New York’s Williamsburg.

On coffee, they hit the right note by collaborating with Area 51 (check out the vintage Marzocco machine on the counter). On food, they are laser focused on healthy bites, offering a very tight menu of vegan and vegeterian options… that still though need a bit of work. Regardless, their Beyond Meat hot dog is a nice addition and a first for Athens. Also, their strawberry pancakes are supposed to be really good so we’ll definitely try them on our next visit.
Above all, people-watching is the thing here. And dog-watching too! With a dog-friendly mentality, Joshua Tree Café takes good care of our four-legged furry friends which always makes us feel good. Tables turn quickly, so even if you visit on a busy weekend morning chances are you’ll get a spot.
