Ice Cream is getting popular by the minute around Athens and we just discovered out latest addiction. And it’s not just our addiction, judging from the queues forming outside Django in Koukaki. Get there fast!
Konstantinos Karakatsanis is not new to the trend. In fact, he’s been tending to sweettooth travellers in Syros since 2016, so he knows a thing or two when it comes to the magic creamy texture of gelato. A long time believer in pure and authentic ice cream making, Konstantinos is a self-taught maestro who diligently studied the art of gastronomy during his spare time. When he opened his first store in Syros he solely focused on 100% pure flavours – no artificial colors, no additives and no bulls**t.
In 2021 and just as covid restrictions were being eased, I found myself in Koukaki on a sunny weekend walk aimed at exactly just that – a chance to try Django ourselves! And trust me, expectations were more than beaten. Konstantinos was manning the ice cream bar, taking the time to explain the daily menu available just like any other barrista would do. Only, he is the creator himself, which automatically gives him even more credit!
We tried a few flavours (no wonder!) and agreed to coming back for some more. Top of our list? The insanely eclectic taste of pistachio, the delicate hazelnut and their amazing chocolate Valrhona! They also serve specialty coffee in collaboration with The Underdog for those seeking to wash their palette off with some espresso.
