Granted, I’m not a big fan of the southern Athenian suburbs. But maybe around summer, I get this tingling urge to drive south and grab some of that chilled vibes. And recently, I did so when I ventured out to Voula for visiting Wesud for a weekend brunch.

We arrived in Voula around noon which I thought was going to be super busy but luckily our friends were waiting for us with a nice table. The newly-launched all-day spot is part of a residential complex of modern lofts that was built by 21 Constructions, a company headed by George Papageorgiou who is also a joint co-founder of Wesud. Together with Filippos Leandros and chef Yiannis Kaldanis, they created this elegant all-day spot back in spring 2021.

Although primarily a pastry shop and marketed as a wine bistro, Wesud by far tops the marks on our list for being a top notch brunch spot in Athens. Everything on offer is made with high quality ingredients and most of the times with healthy living in mind. So it came as no surprise that we managed to kick-off our Saturday noon with a fresh and delicious booster juice!

Eggs come plenty on the menu and we did try a few. The egg soldiers dish comes with two medium boiled eggs inside the paper tray of half a dozen of eggs, accompanied by semi-dried tomatoes, soft cheese, avocado and small crunchy bites of bacons. There’s also an egg avocado toast that was also very tasty and the classic BEC (Bacon Egg Cheese) which was served on a brioche bread – maybe a bit too heavy for my liking but equally nicely done (apart from the mayo addition).

Wesud also serves great coffee from Samba coffee roasters and options for single origin for those that are bit more hard to please! Alongside our healthyish brunch came some shenanigans… a pan con tomate on ciabatta with cheese and jamon  with and a fluffy croissant filled with chocolate praline – both yummy!

Thankfully, even though we spent a good couple of hours, the place remained at full capacity with an ambience though that was very pleasant and not at all noisy. An absolute exception to all these grande cafés around the hood.

Definitely one to have on your list!
