Summer in the city is probably not an option for the many of us that consider Athens home. regardless though of the heat, when the dusk sets Dexameni café in Kolonaki is probably one of the best spots to cool off and enjoy some traditional Greek food!

Originally serving as a neighbourhood coffee place in this hidden square at the foot of the Lecabettus hill, Dexameni Café was lucky enough to be taken over by a trio of young entrepreneurs in 2012 that wanted to retain its simplicity an authenticity bringing this small Athenian treat back to life. Legend has it a few of the quite well known Greek poets used to hangout here in the 1930s and some infamous Greek politicians in the 1980s, in what now is a trendy spots for the young minds of the city.

If you want to grab a bit -and I certainly recommend that- then you can’t miss on the french fries and eggs! Handmade golden fried potatoes moist by the sprinkled scrambled eggs on top and finished with grated Greek cheese. The beef patties are also very tasty and light, and the grilled sausage is good too. If you’re looking to avoid meat, you can try one of their salads, such as the juicy Cretan dakos, or the very tasty lentil salad!
