Concept are not new to us, especially if you’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot (damn the pandemic) outside of Greece. But when concept stores are made out of love, you can totally tell. The Makers, a retail-shop-cum-all-day-brunch-spot, is the perfect way to kick off a cloudy Sunday in the city centre of Athens.
Along I venture downtown, walk in the elegantly designed interiors of The Makers and ready to kick back with a double espresso whilst waiting for my friend to arrive. I ponder over the menu which resembles that of Me Kolonaki and without a doubt you can tell it’s of the same owners. Teti Haritou, George Ballas and Ilias Stavropoulos are the masterminds of The Makers, offering some artisan accessories (think aprons, t-shirts and the likes) whilst serving some of the best coffee and (healthy) breakfast in town.
The place had launched during the pandemic but quickly got a dedicated audience. Praxitelous street has seen a recent revival since 2010 or so, and it’s great to see such places flourish.
For breakfast, we got the spinach crepe that comes with a fried egg and some avocado on the side – delicious! Apart from some healthy bowls, you can also opt for the waffle toast served with a bio egg, cheddar and prosciutto cotto!
In the end, we overcame our healthy regime and tried their amazing apple tart that is served on a fluffy creme patisserie bed. Must try!
