Sunday morning must feel like a day (or two) at Mayasi up in the northern square of Chora. A picturesque hideout for those in the know with some good food options but most of all an ambience second to none, especially as you kick into the day.
As I walk up to Chora on a quiet morning, I make it to the top square to stumble upon nice film music piano tunes and a great setting for a morning read. Mayasi wine bar may be open at night, offering some tapas and good wine options, but this place is at the top of its game during the first part of the day. Maybe it was the shade of the big tree, the slow pace of travelers passing by (or at least those that make it to the top as most get filtered out earlier on) or even the marble-top tables and the traditional kafeneio chairs… whatever it is, this is a magical place.
I order a glass of freddo espresso, which by the way is the best on the island, a few bites to nibble on and start my day with an elegant touch.
